White House Proclamation Older Americans are the pillars of our community, and we owe it to them to value their wisdom, celebrate their contributions, and champion their well-being. 

The risk of injuring themselves and others while driving is higher than that for younger adults because of age-associated changes and conditions common among older adults. 

Rural driving is more than twice as dangerous as urban driving (for all age groups). The traffic fatality rate in rural areas are much higher than urban areas. 

The Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) Act created a new Special Rule for older drivers and pedestrians under 23 USC 148(g)(2),  which was cont. under the FAST Act.
