Are you looking to cut down on your driving? Do you want to try a rideshare app but don’t know where to start? In this guide, ChORUS will walk you through the basics of how to use them. For this example, we will be using Uber as it is the most widely available and used. However, there are many other options that will have a similar format should you choose another app.

Before You Download

Before downloading the app, Uber also offers Uber Health and ride requests. Uber Health allows senior centers to request, manage, and pay for rides without requiring the resident to download the app.

Uber also allows this same function for a family member or loved one. They can request a ride for the senior, even if they don’t have the app, and they will receive a message with the vehicle information and the driver’s phone number.

Getting Started

First, you will need to create an account. All you need is an email address and a phone number. You can request a ride from your browser or from the Uber app. The Uber app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play for Android.

Requesting a Ride

Once in the app, you will type your destination in the box that says, “Where to?” You will confirm your pickup location and tap confirm again to be matched with a nearby driver.

You can then track your driver as they approach. Once they are a few minutes away, wait for them at your pickup location if you are not already there.

Your Ride

Once your driver arrives, make sure you are getting into the right car with the correct driver. Your app will tell you the make, model, and license plate number of your driver. Confirm this information before getting into the car.

Once you have confirmed this is the right driver, you get to sit back and enjoy the ride! Once you have reached your destination, the app will prompt you to rate your driver and enter in a tip if desired.

And that’s your ride! You are now ready to start ridesharing. As previously mentioned, the other rideshare apps have very similar layouts and processes to make it easier for users to navigate. These instructions will be very similar to other rideshare apps.
