National: Driver License Renewal Policies and Fatal Crash Involvement Rates of Older Drivers, United States, 1985-2011

This study by the AAA Foundation examined 25 years of data from 46 states in order to assess the effectiveness of a variety of driver licensing policies on reducing the fatal crash involvement of older motorists. Among the key findings was that requiring in-person renewal was associated with a 25% reduction in fatal crash involvements among drivers ages 85+.
