Driving When You Have Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration affects vision and therefore can have a huge impact on one’s ability to drive. First, an eye doctor should tell his patient if they are able to drive once they’ve been diagnosed. Macular degeneration worsens over time, however, there are surgical procedures that can be done in the early stages of the disease. Eventually a person affected by this disease will need to consider other means of transportation. There are sources listed in the brochure provided by AAA and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration where more information can be found on macular degeneration.
